It’s 7 am, the sky is a perfect blue, the air is still, the birds are chirping, and the ocean is calm. You walk out on your lānai with a fresh cup of coffee, inhale the warm ocean air, gather your thoughts and decide to head out for a swim. You have no schedule, no place to be, no pressing meetings, no obligations. Itʻs just you and a date with the Pacific Ocean.
You walk across the lawn, with smooth sea grass between your toes; this gives way to warm, dry sand and then cool water. The crystal-clear waters are teaming with fish of all different colors, shapes, and sizes. As you swim peacefully through the water, all you can hear is your heartbeat and your breathing. You are totally relaxed as you experience the magnificence of the Pacific.
Feeling fully refreshed, you head back home, where a fresh tropical fruit plate awaits you. A little later you have an appointment with yourself and a good book poolside. A nap may even be in your future as you relax in your cabana.
On tap for the evening is a beautiful oceanside dinner at yet another fabulous restaurant on Kohala Coast. Good friends are meeting you there. You’ll be seated seaside with a perfect view of the sunset. The sky will be filled with hues of purple, orange, and blue. A nice steamed opakapaka with a mango chutney is on the menu, with saffron rice and a seasoned broccolini. Or maybe it’s an 8-ounce bone-in tomahawk filet with twice mashed potatoes, and seasoned root vegetables. A great bottle of wine, an epic sunset, laughter, stories and sharing life with good friends puts a cap on a perfect day. Welcome to paradise! Welcome to what could be and should be!
I paint this picture for you because my job is to be an “Imagineer”! The term was first coined by Walt Disney when he said that they were Imagineering, meaning they were dreaming, designing and developing the future of the theme parks. In a nutshell, that’s what I do. I help people imagine what their Hawai`i life could be.
People get caught up in a lot of distractions. Those distractions could be the economy, the political time of the year, interest rates, the perfect timing, etc. Many times, those distractions take them away from imagining what could be, and what should be. I speak with people all the time who are trying to nail down the perfect timing in purchasing their dream property in Hawai`i. That perfect timing could mean several things to different people, but so rarely does it ever work out. This one guy kept telling me the perfect time to buy a house in Hawai`i and at a deeply discounted rate was two years from now. I asked him if he was going to be alive in two years. There was just dead silence on the other end of the phone. He said, “what do you mean, am I going to be alive? Of course, I am going to be alive!” I said, “Well, you never know. All any of us ever have is today. We don’t know about the future. We don’t know if we will have tomorrow. So, is the idea of getting the perfect deal on a house at deeply discounted price is more important than starting your best life now, here in Hawai`i?” What if you never get there? What is holding you back from starting your best life now in Hawai`i? Have you taken the time to imagine what could be and should be? The clock is ticking for us all!
