DID YOU KNOW?
Hawai`i is a multi-cultural melting pot and one of the celebrated events is Chinese New Year. In 2023 Chinese New Year will fall on Sunday, January 22, and celebrates the Year of the Rabbit. The rabbit is one symbol of the Chinese zodiac, a repeating 12-year cycle of animal signs and their ascribed attributes, based on a lunar calendar. The animals representing each of the years are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. In Hawai`i, Chinese New Year is often celebrated with street parties or celebrations at public places like shopping centers, always featuring a Chinese Lion Dance, to bring luck and prosperity to merchants.
