Each June 11, Hawai`i honors the chief who united the Hawaiian Islands – King Kamehameha. June 11 is recognized as a state holiday and celebrations of the king are held in communities around the state. Here are just a few historic highlights of the first and most famous of Hawai`i’s ali`i (royalty). *Kamehameha was born in North Kohala, the tip of the Island of Hawai`i. Before his birth, it was prophesized that he would become the greatest of all chiefs. Because of this prophecy, his life was threatened; to keep him safe his followers kept him hidden in a remote valley until the age of 13. *In 1795, Kamehameha fulfilled the prophecy, conquering and uniting the islands we know today as Hawai`i under one rule. He became King Kamehameha I and the founder of Hawai`i’s royalty. *King Kamehameha I established the first capital of the united Hawaiian Kingdom in Kailua-Kona at Kamakahonu, where he died in May of 1819. * Although there are several statues of Kamehameha situated around Hawai`i, the original statue of the king is located in Kapa`au, North Kohala. *For more on the celebrations surrounding Kamehameha Day, visit http://www.kamehamehadaycelebration.org/ and konaparade.org.

One home sale recorded at Mauna Kea Resort in May for 100% of the Sale to Current price, $6.9M, after zero days on the market. Price per square foot for the home was $1,751.
2021 YEAR END MARKET STATS
There were eight home sales in Mauna Kea Resort in 2021, with Sale Prices ranging from $1.795M to $18.532M. The average number of days on market was 83 with the Sale to Current Price averaging at 95.2%. The price per square foot ranged from $713 to $3,221.
Condominium sales were lively with 48 sales closing in 2021. Sale Prices ranged from $1.03M to $8.99M with the average days on market at 65. The Sale to Current Price averaged at 99.6% and the price per square foot ranged from $604 to $2,660.

MAUNA KEA EVENTS
The community of North Kohala, the birthplace of King Kamehameha, will honor the ruler on Saturday, June 11, with a celebration that starts with an 8 a.m. lei draping ceremony at his statue in Kapa`au, followed by a traditional pa'u parade with horses and riders adorned in flowers and colors to represent each Hawaiian Island at 9 a.m., starting at Kohala High School and continuing to the Kamehameha Park in Kapa`au. Take in the festivities and then spend some time visiting the shops and other historic sites in this community located on the northern tip of the island.
