Social Networking Wins Real Estate Fans

Social networking sites including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and ActiveRain are the medium for real estate professionals get the word out.

On Twitter, users create profiles and post messages as long as 140 characters that can be viewed on a PC or a mobile phone. Jo-Ann Cervin, an associate with ZipReallty in Las Vegas, sends out dozens of tweets (as messages are called) saying things like : “Las Vegas bank owned properties are seeing multiple offers! The great deals are going QUICK!”

Facebook users have more latitude to tell about the properties for sale. John Ammirati, an associate broker with Century 21 Prevete on Long Island, N.Y., created a Facebook page for all the associates in his company, so they can post listings, video and open house information.

Ammirati says after a year, the site is just beginning to pay off. “Part of it is the agents themselves reconnecting with some people in the past,” Ammirati says. “Sometimes it’s hard to quantify how this networking leads exactly to (new clients).”
