Featured Activity: Kona Cliffs

Kona Cliffs is a new climbing gym in Kailua-Kona’s Brew Block (74-5617 Pawai Pl., Bay H). With more than 2,500 square feet of space and 1,800 square feet of bouldering walls to explore, there’s a climbing experience for everyone. Kona Cliffs offers a FREE 30-minute climbing orientation, training, and safety class to ALL first-time visitors. They rent climbing shoes and provide safety gear, which, along with comfortable clothing, is all you need to get started. Every 2 weeks 1/4 of the gym’s walls are reset to bring in some fresh new routes to keep things interesting!

The gym is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers day passes and membership rates; a keiki after school program for ages 6 to 13 teaches the foundations of climbing.

Featured Restaurant: Kānoa Grill

Whether it’s dine-in, take out or catering Kānoa Grill provides a dining experience combining the best of Hawai`i’s flavors and fresh seafood. The menu is curated by Executive Chef Bryan Fujikawa, who was born and raised on Hawai’i Island and has learned about delicious local ingredients from his experience as a fisherman, farmer, and chef.

Chef Bryan started more than 20 years ago with a small family operation producing and selling dried fish under the name, “Sun Dried Specialties.” This grew into the birth of the Fishbowl and Kona Grill House in Kealakekua and, just this summer, the enterprise expanded to Kailua-Kona with Kānoa Grill.

Kānoa Grill offers a dozen different kinds of poke, made fresh each day, a showcase of desserts, also baked fresh each day, and what customers call “five-star food out of cardboard box.” From fish burgers and lobster crab cakes to smoked prime rib and lilikoi pork chops, you wonʻt walk away hungry.

Located in Crossroads Shopping Center, 75-1027 Henry St., Ste 102B, Kānoa Grill is open Sunday-Tuesday and Thursday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Catering Services are provided 7 days a week. Restaurant 808-323-3512; Catering 808-557-8579; kanoagrill.com
