Featured Restaurant – Cipriano’s Kitchen
61-3642 Kawaihae Rd., Kamuela, HI 96743

This month’s featured restaurant is very unique and offers personal service, fresh ingredients and a relaxed atmosphere for breakfast or lunch. Located in Kawaihae, just north of the popular beach resorts of the Kohala Coast, it is a great alternative for guests who want to get off their resort property to try something new.

The pizza-like fugazzas, pastries, salads, paninis, Peruvian specials, pastas are desserts are on the menu, as well as coffees, wines, and cocktails.

It’s the best of two worlds – Italian and Peruvian cuisine. Gino Cipriano is from Taormina, Italy, and Claudia Cipriano is from Lima, Peru. But as soon as they met in a restaurant in the U.S. they knew their food cultures were meant to be together. And so they opened Cipriano’s Kitchen Kawaihae—a place where you can get the best of both worlds in a delicious combination of Italian and Peruvian cuisines.

Check out their menu.

Featured Activity – Snorkeling at Kealakekua Bay

A favorite activity of many Big Island visitors is snorkeling. Most vacation rentals have equipment available for their guests. Be sure to choose beach/shoreline areas with calm waters and minimal breaking waves.

If you want one of the most amazing snorkeling experiences in Hawai`i, you should visit Kealakekua Bay in South Kona. Many of the boats offering snorkel adventures that leave from Kona Pier or Keauhou Bay go to Kealakekua Bay, but you can also drive there and enjoy the snorkeling on your own.

Kealakekua Bay is located on the Kona coast of the island of Hawaiʻi about 12 miles south of Kailua-Kona. Settled over a thousand years ago, the surrounding area contains many archeological and historical sites such as religious temples. It also includes the spot where the first documented European to reach the Hawaiian Islands, Captain James Cook, was killed. The Bay and Captain Cook’s monument were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 as the Kealakekua Bay Historical District. The bay is an underwater state park and a marine life conservation district, a popular destination for kayaking, SCUBA diving, and snorkeling. You’ll be amazed by the marine life you will see!
