Featured Activity: Whale Watching
It’s that time of year! Humpback whales have been seen off the Kona Coast. The islands’ largest visitors, the whales come to Hawai`i’s waters each year to breed and give birth to new calves. Though they can be seen from the shore from Kona to Kohala, you can also schedule a tour or charter a boat to spot these 40-ton, 40-foot-long giants playfully surface to slap their tails, breach, or blow water from their spouts into the air. Regulations prohibit boats from approaching within 100 yards of a whale and you should never swim with or touch whales or any other marine mammals. There are several ocean activity companies which offer whale watching options and will take you to the best spots to view these magnificent mammals enjoying their vacation in Hawai`i.
