Featured Activity: Na`alapa Stables

Located on the slopes of the Kohala Mountains, within Kahua Ranch, Na`alapa Stables offers horseback rides through lush pastures with stunning views of the Kohala coastline. The 12,000-acre ranch offers riders open range riding with the opportunity to walk-trot and canter if the skill of the rider allows. Kahua is a working ranch so you will encounter cattle, sheep, and horses during your ride. This family-run ranch is one of the island’s oldest and most diverse operations; its acreage stretches from the rainforests at the top of the mountain down to the coastline. The stables are open daily for 1.5-hour and 2.5-hour rides and staffed with experienced paniolo (cowboys) whose families have been part of the ranching industry for generations. If you love horseback riding, you’ll love Na`alapa Stables. Reservations are required. Children ages 8 and older are allowed; there is a weight limit of 230 pounds. Long pants, close-toed shoes, a hat, bottled water. and light jacket are recommended.

Featured Restaurant: Quinns Almost By The Sea

This intimate dining experience is located in Kailua Village about a half-block from Kailua Pier, thus its name – “Almost By the Sea.” But, no matter, the restaurant offers diners the freshest of fish for tacos, fish & chips and entrees. Burgers, salads, pastas, steaks, and a wide variety of appetizers are included on the menu of this family-owned restaurant. Thirsty? Quinn’s offers tropical drinks, and a selection of beers and wines. Keiki have their own menu of favorites.

Open for lunch and dinner, dine in or take out, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Closed Wednesdays and Saturdays. Televisions in both the bar and restaurant keep diners entertained with favorite sporting events. During football season, Quinn’s reverberates with cheers, opening for breakfast at 7 a.m. on Sundays. The restaurant is also available for special events.
