Dive enthusiasts and those who love ocean adventures can’t say enough about the opportunity in Kona to swim with the Manta Rays. Getting in the water after dark is adventurous enough, but to view and be close to these gentle, giant sea creatures is a thrill. The mantas – or hahalua in Hawaiian – are drawn to Kona’s nearshore waters to feed on plankton. Plankton are attracted to light, and mantas are attracted to plankton. Due to this behavior, shining bright lights in the water at night allows visitors to swim with the feeding mantas just off the Kona coast! There are many ocean recreation operators who offer “Dive with the Manta” experiences. Do an online search and explore your options.
Featured Restaurant: Patisserie Nanako
Patisserie Nanako is a Japanese bakery in Waimea which features beautiful and tasty pastries, sourdough breas, French baguettes, Japanese milk bread, custom-made cakes, cakes by the slice, and savory pan. On Wednesdays and Saturdays they offer a Boston-style clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. I could go on, but it’s better if you stop into their shop and explore the special of the day. Follow them on Social Media to find out what is being offered. It could be a poha or lemon meringue tart, German chocolate cake or freshly baked bagels.
