Featured Activity: Whale Watching

Between now and April Hawai`i welcomes our “biggest” visitors – the Humpback whales. Two-thirds of the entire North Pacific humpback whale population return to Hawaiʻi to breed, calve and nurse their young each year. They race more than 3,000 miles from the Gulf of Alaska to Hawaiʻi, then stay for a lengthy vacation, So, if you like being on the water or in the water, now is the time to book a snorkel cruise or whale watch adventure with your favorite water activity vendor. Of course, you can see the whales frolicking in the nearshore waters from the shore, but it’s so much more spectacular to be on the ocean and see these huge mammals. The humpbacks are “protected,” – It’s illegal to approach within 100 yards of a humpback whale. Be sure the water activity vendor you choose is licensed and, while on the water, is vigilant and respectful of the whales.
