Featured Restaurant: Patina & Kona Biscuit Company
Patina, styled as a new American gastropub and Kona Biscuit Company, a new breakfast/brunch and dining venue are both now open at Queens Marketplace in the Waikoloa Beach Resort.
Located in the former Sansei Restaurant spot, Kona Biscuit Company offer a variety of breakfast biscuits with “Big Hawaiian flavors.” Of course, there is coffee and tropical mimosas to get your mornings off to a relaxing start. Serving breakfast daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., the menu includes their specialty breakfast biscuits with kalua pork, bacon, Portuguese sausage and more as well as Buttermilk pancakes, French toast, waffles, and fried chicken biscuits. For those of you who are not breakfast eaters, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 to 9 p.m. the space transforms into “The Roost,” offering a more elevated dinner experience featuring Hawai`i regional steakhouse flavors and shareable dishes. At Patina, the former Charley’s Thai Cuisine space, guests will find a transformed restaurant featuring gastropub cuisine with elevated comfort dishes and craft cocktails. It’s a great place for pau hana drinks, shared plates or special nights out. Open Monday through Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m., Waimea’s own Keith Pajinag, known for stints at Johnny’s at the Waikoloa Village Clubhouse and Halani at Mauna Lani Auberge, is the Executive Chef and Owner of this new restaurant. Chef Keith has more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, specializing in luxury hotels. As a new venue, the menu is still evolving. Located on the slopes of the Kohala Mountains, within Kahua Ranch, Na`alapa Stables offers horseback rides through lush pastures with stunning views of the Kohala
coastline. The 12,000-acre ranch offers riders open range riding with the opportunity to walk-trot and canter if the skill of the rider allows. Kahua is a working ranch so you will
encounter cattle, sheep, and horses during your ride. This family-run ranch is one of the island’s oldest and most diverse operations; its acreage stretches from the rainforests at the top of the mountain down to the coastline. The stables are open daily for 1.5-hour and 2.5-hour rides and staffed with experienced paniolo (cowboys) whose families have been part of the ranching industry for generations. If you love horseback riding, you’ll love Na`alapa Stables. Reservations are required. Children ages 8 and older are allowed; there is a weight limit of 230 pounds.
